Christmas is the time of the year when you can smell the joy of happiness in the air and, to be honest, also the smell of biscuits all over the house. The magic of Christmas is not only the happiness for unwrapping the desired presents on the 25th of December but also the excitement during the days before the BIG day when everyone is busy with the preparation. Kids can have fun decorating the house, preparing some delicious recipes, and writing letters to Santa during this time.
We want to share this magical time together and enjoy the excitement of waiting. For this reason, we have prepared our personal advent calendar.
Speechie tips: use this advent calendar to improve and support the language and social skills of your child. Every day, before opening a new box, ask your kids what they did yesterday. Once today’s planned activity is finished, ask them to tell someone (e.g. a parent, grandparents etc) what they did. Describing what they have experienced it’s a good way to support your children’s narrative skills and productivity of the day (Mäkinen et al., 2013).
Start the joy of Christmas!
Day 1:
The countdown is officially started. To get into the Christmas mood, nothing is better than reading a Christmas book before going to bed.
Day 2:
Saturday is the time to relax but let’s do it with some Christmas’s vibes! Choose your favourite Christmas movie and watch it with all your family!
Day 3:
Show us how good you are at cooking! Today is the time to… BAKE! Choose what recipe you want to make and don’t forget to do a taste test 😉
Day 4:
Challenge day! How many things can you do in 1 minute? Definitely, a lot! So today we challenge you: try to say as many words as you can in 1 minute relating to Christmas. We will start first: decorations, presents…
Day 5:
Free drawing day! For today, the instructions are: take a white sheet of paper, use colour pencils, and free your imagination and draw whatever you like most about Christmas!
Day 6:
How much are you into the Christmas mood? Maybe with some red clothes, it will be better! Today choose something red to wear!
Day 7:
Are you good at jokes? Let’s see if you can guess this one!
What do monkeys sing at Christmas? Jungle bells!
What kind of ball doesn’t bounce? A snowball.
Day 8:

Day 11:
Colouring Day! Choose one or more pictures that you like and colour them! (credits to https://momlovesbest.com/christmas-coloring-pages )
Day 12:
Christmas is not only asking for presents but also be grateful for. Write a list of 3 things/people/events you are grateful for.
Day 13:
Christmas hunt: hide some toys and let your child find them!
Day 14:
Kindness Day! Say something nice to your friend/parent/someone around you (e.g., I like your hairstyle, I like the draw you did, the lunch box that you prepared was delicious)
Day 15:
Christmas is getting closer, tell Santa what you want this year! Write a letter to him but before asking him for some presents, tell Santa what good actions you did this year!
Day 16:
Keep your eyes open! Today let’s have a walk and take 5 photos of the decorations that you like most in your suburb!
Day 17:
Today we put ourselves into Elves’ shoes! As they tidy up their rooms with all your presents, let’s do the same! Task for today… tidy your room, if you do it well mum and dad can give you a candy!
